Speaker of the House Paul Ryan released a promo video Thursday that looked a lot like a man who wants to be president.

Ryan’s communications director Mike Ricci refuted that claim after it was suggested by the Drudge Report.

But it’s tough to argue the optics.

Ryan’s name has been bandied about as an establishment-choice potential to swoop in at the convention and grab the Republican presidential nomination if no one reaches the magic number of 1,237 delegates prior to the delegation.

Despite the rumors, Ryan’s camp denies the video has anything to do with him running for president.

“Upon taking this job, Speaker Ryan was clear he would need to do things differently. Speaker Ryan is a communications speaker, as he promised. Ryan introduced the ‘#confidentamerica’ theme in a speech at the start of his speakership,” Ryan’s press secretary AshLee Strong told TheBlaze. “The ‘State of American’ politics speech was a natural follow up. American should be confident in its policies and politics.”

Many people weren’t buying the long-winded explanation.
