A top 20 recruit for Mississippi State is in apology mode after a video surfaced of him and a woman delivering a brutal beating to another female.

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Jeffery Simmons issued an apology on Facebook after the video that showed him pummeling the woman came to light, WCBI reported.

The defensive linemen apologized to the woman he called Sophia Taylor and her family and said the woman talked about his deceased nephews in a way that caused him to “act in a manner that was out of character” for him.

Macon, Miss., police are reportedly aware of the situation but have yet to respond to WCBI’s calls for comment.

The apology didn’t do much, if anything, to quell the anger of many on social media.
