Just when you thought the primary election between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz could not get more personal, the Republican presidential front-runner upped the ante.
Trump fired the latest salvo in the battle over the wives late Wednesday when he “re-tweeted” a photo comparing the looks of his wife and former model Melania to his rival’s wife Heidi Cruz along with the caption: “No need to “spill the beans” … the images are worth a thousand words.”
It didn’t help matters that an unflattering picture of Mrs. Cruz was used:
The focus on the wives began when an anti-Trump PAC not affiliated with the Cruz campaign used a provocative nude photo of Trump’s wife in an ad to sway Utah’s Mormons. The ad included the message: “Meet Melania Trump. Your next first lady. Or, you could support Ted Cruz on Tuesday.”
An angry Trump responded to the ad by threatening to “spill the beans” on Heidi Cruz, prompting the Texas senator to call Trump a “coward” and “classless.”
Cruz responded less than an hour after Trump re-tweeted the insulting photo comparing the candidate’s wives:
Donald, real men don’t attack women. Your wife is lovely, and Heidi is the love of my life. https://t.co/pprXhIMzUT
