Not only are released Guantanamo Bay (Gitmo) detainees reverting back to their terrorist ways, but they’re also killing Americans in the process.
Since being released from Gitmo, a senior Defense Department official told lawmakers that former prisoners are actually killing Americans, according to an Associated Press report.
Paul Lewis, a senior Defense Dept. official, would not say exactly how many Americans have died at the hands of former Gitmo prisoners nor if the killings occurred during President Obama’s seven years in office.
“What I can tell you is unfortunately there have been Americans that have died because of (Guantanamo) detainees,” Lewis told GOP lawmakers on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. “When anybody dies, it is tragedy, and we don’t want anybody to die because we transfer detainees.”
Naturally, an Obama administration official immediately said afterwards that Lewis was solely referring to an incident where a former Gitmo prisoner killed an American during the George W. Bush administration.
That allegation has not been confirmed by Lewis.
Since taking office, the Obama administration has released 144 detainees at Guantanamo.
