BPR Buzzworthy: Jesse Watters is self-aware, loved by grandmas . . . and about to rock Al Sharpton’s world

Jesse Watters 2016 resize bestJesse Watters currently serves as the host of a series of monthly specials on Fox News Channel (FNC) entitled “Watters’ World” which provides viewers a comedic look at the latest headlines surrounding the 2016 presidential election.

The specials are a spinoff of his segment on the top-rated cable program “The O’Reilly Factor” and feature his popular man-on-the-street interviews; the specials also include a rotating panel of guests who discuss the most recent events in the election cycle.

He joined FNC in 2002 as a production assistant in the newsroom and has been working with “The O’Reilly Factor” since 2004. Watters also serves as a correspondent, producer and managing editor for Fox Nation. He graduated from Trinity College with a Bachelor of Arts in history.

BizPac Review is pleased to welcome back Jesse Watters for the second time.

Q. After years of hosting “Watters’ World” segments and interacting with “average” Americans, many of whom are what we politely call “low information voters,” are you optimistic or pessimistic about our nation’s future?

A. Americans aren’t dumb, they’re just oblivious. Around half of the country isn’t paying attention. Donald Trump jokes that he “loves the poorly educated,” but many times the so-called “poorly educated” have a better grasp of the news than well-off college students. I once asked a Harvard grad student what she thought about the Fast and Furious scandal and she said, “You mean the movie?” So “smart” people can also be “low info” too. But I’m optimistic about America’s future. “Watters’ World” mostly interviews Americans under 35-years-old. Once these people grow up, have kids, travel and pay taxes, they’ll realize it matters who the vice president is (unless it’s Joe Biden).

Q. What is your favorite “Watters’ World” interview so far this year and why?

A. The “Watters’ World” Bernie Sanders edition at the University of Oregon came together perfectly as a finished product. Young Bernie Sanders supporters can’t explain how he’s going to pay for his policies or even what his policies are! One Sanders supporter couldn’t even name a reason WHY she’s supporting him! I laugh out loud every time I watch it.

But the “Watters’ World” Python Hunt in the Everglades was the most fun to shoot. I’m not a fan of snakes but I love weapons. It was my first time hunting, too. I caught a lot of heat for my loud attire. What people didn’t understand is that I WANTED to stick out so the snakes could see me coming. It worked. Only thing I killed that day was my pride.

Q. Having guest-hosted “The O’Reilly Factor” a handful of times, can you tell us what that was like? How did you handle the pressure? Did Bill O’Reilly critique you afterwards?

A.  It’s a great honor and opportunity to guest-host Bill’s program because it’s the #1 cable news show in the country. I’m loose when I host “The Factor” because I know the audience. There’s also less pressure to anchor a show because you’re in command. But you realize how good O’Reilly actually is when you sit in for him – because he delivers top performances night after night – year after year.

Bill emailed me “good job” after the first time I hosted. He’s a man of many words, isn’t he? But I’ll take it.

Q. “Watters’ World” coverage of the recent Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) neglected to show viewers how you were mobbed by adoring fans. Witnessing all the commotion first hand, I was wondering if your CPAC reception was just a typical “day at the office.”

A. Moms love me. Middle-aged white guys love me. Grandmothers REALLY love me. So it was nice to get a lot of love from the college crowd. Next time I’m charging for photos. Is that appropriate?

Q. Starting in November, your “Watters’ World” segments on “The O’Reilly Factor” were expanded to a monthly series of weekend specials on FNC. Since the next special airs on Saturday, March 19, can you give us a sneak preview or tell us about the show?

A. We’ll show you exclusive footage of how radical anti-Trump protesters shut down Donald’s Chicago rally. We have exclusive video of Rev. Al Sharpton that will make your blood boil. Of course there’ll be students bombing a basic American civics quiz too. An instant classic. Tune in at 8 p.m. ET Saturday AND Sunday!

Q. Your FNC profile has been raised significantly since your first BizPac Review interview on October 10, 2014. Besides a twice-weekly stint on the “O’Reilly Factor,” you often appear on such shows as “Outnumbered,” “The Five,” and now your own monthly special. Having started at FNC in 2002 as a young production assistant, can you share the secrets of your success?

A.  “Four secrets” — hard work, a sense of adventure, a great team, and nice clothes.

Jesse, on behalf of our readers, I would like to thank you for visiting with us.

You can catch Jesse’s “Watters’ World Special on the Fox News Channel Saturday, March 12 and Sunday, March 13 at 8 p.m. ET, and as always during the week on “The O’Reilly Factor” at 8 p.m. ET.
