It was written all over Cuomo’s face that he just wasn’t buying it.

In a post-debate interview Thursday, Republican presidential contender Donald Trump clearly caught CNN’s Chris Cuomo off guard when the candidate offered an explanation as to why the IRS often audits him.

When Cuomo asked Trump why he wouldn’t release his tax records, the real estate developer said it wouldn’t be smart at this time because he was being audited.

“I’m always audited by the IRS, which I think is very unfair,” Trump added. “I dunno, maybe because of religion, maybe because of something else…”

“What do you mean, religion?” Cuomo interrupted.

“Maybe because of the fact that I’m a strong Christian,” he said. “Maybe there’s a bias.”
