‘Pillow over his head,’ ‘bizarre’ circumstances lead to questions about Justice Scalia’s death

Conspiracy theories began to circulate moments after the news of Justice Antonin Scalia‘s death hit the airwaves.

The official cause of death was listed under “natural causes,” but questions continue to abound, the Washington Post reported.

It took hours to find a justice of the peace to make the official pronouncement after Scalia’s lifeless body was found. Presidio County Judge Cinderela Guevara pronounced the revered Supreme Court justice dead of natural causes by phone without so much as laying an eye on the body.

Scalia’s family declined to have an autopsy done.

Another justice of the peace was called, but who didn’t make it in time to review the body, said she would have wanted an autopsy.

“If it had been me … I would want to know,” Juanita Bishop said in an interview, according to the Post.

Guevara said she made the pronouncement after being assured by law enforcement officials on the scene that “there were no signs of foul play.”

Hours after his death, businessman and owner of the Houston ranch where Scalia was staying, John Poindexter, told what he saw.

“We discovered the judge in bed, a pillow over his head. His bed clothes were unwrinkled,” the San Antonio Express-News reported.

A statement released Sunday by the U.S. Marshals Service, who is in charge of security for Supreme Court justices, said the judge had declined to have security detail while staying at the ranch so none were present when he died, the Post reported.

“It wasn’t a heart attack,” Guevara told the Post. “He died of natural causes.”

That statement did little to quell the doubts of people on social media; even some on Fox News called the circumstances “bizarre.”
