Teen thief gets arm ripped completely off trying to steal Air Jordan sneakers

A robbery victim gave new meaning to the term “disarming a suspect.”

The man, Philippe Pierre, 39, agreed to meet 17-year-old Zachary Sam to sell him a pair of Air Jordan 8 Retro sneakers for $490 but Sam had other ideas.

At the scheduled meeting place in New York, Sam got into Pierre’s SUV, pulled out a gun, a snatched the sneakers at gunpoint before getting out of the vehicle and walking away, the New York Post reported.

Pierre was not going to accept being robbed.

He turned the car around and gunned it towards Sam, pinning him against a fence and causing his arm to be severed, according to the Post.

The thief got out from under the car and ran away onto, and then off of, a bus before collapsing in the street.

Witnesses described the terrifying scene.

“I saw a kid under a car,” Alex Saint Fleur told the Post. “The guy ran him over. He got out, the driver said, ‘He’s trying to rob me. He’s trying to rob me.’”

“I saw the gun on the floor,” he said. “The arm was on the floor near the gun.”

He said the witnesses yelled at the man to “come back” and get his arm.

An unidentified relative of Pierre said he was chasing Sam and didn’t intend to strike him with the vehicle until Sam pulled out his gun again to shoot him.

“The kid pulled out the gun to shoot him while he was in the car, and that’s when he tried to protect himself,” the relative told NBC New York. “That’s why he accelerated and that’s when it happened.”

Pierre has been arrested and charged with attempted murder, according to the Post.

Sam is still in the hospital and listed in stable condition. He has been charged with robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.

It is currently unknown what happened to Sam’s arm.
