Italian wife faces jail time for not doing household chores – reportedly considered ‘mistreatment’ in Italy

This is the 21st century, right?

An Italian woman is facing up to 6 years in jail for failing to clean the house after her husband took her to court and charged her with “poor management of the household chores.”

“Mistreatment within the family” is reportedly a crime in Italy.

The 47-year-old husband “claimed he had been ‘insulted’ for over two years by his wife’s negligence,” the local newspaper reported. He also noted that “on occasion, his wife has kicked him out of their bedroom and that he has been ‘forced to live in conditions with poor hygiene.’”

And if that weren’t enough, he claimed his wife, 40, rarely cooked and the food he buys ends up in the trash bin.

The Telegraph reported that the Italian penal code, “punishes whoever mistreats a person in their family or a person entrusted to them for reasons of education, care or custody.”

And no doubt, the “insulted” husband is feeling mistreated.

The reaction on social media was skeptical, to say the least. Although one astute user noted that “libs say we need to be more like the Europeans.”
