Trump accused of calling his own supporters mindless lemmings after ‘controversial’ 5th Ave joke

When describing his loyalty among supporters, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump joked that he could publicly shoot someone and they would still remain true to him.

“They say I have the most loyal people. Did you ever see that?” Trump said at a campaign stop in Sioux Center, Iowa Saturday.

“Where I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody. And I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK? It’s like incredible.”

Asked about the remark on CNN,  Trump spokeswoman Katrina Pierson made it clear that Trump was joking and speaking “off the cuff” as usual.

“He’s very candid, he’s not scripted, he engages with the audience and he always tells jokes.”

She added that “it was in the discussion of loyalty and voters and repeating what someone had told him earlier.”
