White males take another hit in President Barack Obama’s America.
In response to the outcry over no black actors being nominated for an Oscar this year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences moved quickly to appease the aggrieved by agreeing to “become less male and less white,” as The New York Times opted to describe the actions taken.

Meeting Thursday, the Academy’s board of directors approved several initiatives designed to double the number of women and diverse members of the Academy by 2020.
Three new seats will also be added to its board of governors to diversify its leadership — white males need not apply.
Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs sounded eerily similar to Obama in a statement announcing the changes: “The Academy is going to lead and not wait for the industry to catch up.”

Based on the reaction on social media, receiving an Oscar is evolving into little more than being given a participation trophy. Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
.@TheAcademy A nice attempt, but there’s no pleasing these people. Whatever you do will never be enough.

@TheAcademy I don’t envy the members who are chosen simply due to their skin color. I’d feel like a trophy or a piece of meat.

@TheAcademy sad day when someone doesn’t win so we have to change the rules so they can. #oscars #childishbehavior

@TheAcademy I guess just throw merit out the window like the rest of this country has, apparently it comes down to race only
— Pessimist Prime (@PessPrime) January 23, 2016
@TheAcademy this is more racist than before in my opinion.. and absolutely idiotic.
— Nicola Serafini (@nclsrfn) January 23, 2016
@TheAcademy so does that mean the BET awards are going to be diverse too? #justsaying

@nytimes There ya go. Academy Awards Affirmative Action. Merit doesn’t matter. Just don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.

@nytimes. Oh, ok. Less men + less whites in the future… How is that not racist and sexist all at once?
— Andy Bruchey (@AustinFitnessHQ) January 23, 2016
@nytimes well, that’ll clear things up. #not pic.twitter.com/srTxtPBJDT
