Outrage at woman who starts ‘GoFundMe’ page to reimburse her for fortune she spent on Powerball

Cinnamon Nicole, of Tennessee said not only did she expected to win the Powerball jackpot, she spent her family’s entire life savings in an effort to do so.

Claiming that she was now destitute, Nicole started a GoFundMe page asking for people to reimburse her for the massive amount of money she said that she spent on the lottery tickets. Judging by the negative backlash on her Facebook page, it appeared to be an elaborate joke gone wrong.

According to what she wrote on her GoFundMe page, she didn’t want the money to get back on her feet but instead wants to use the money to “spend another fortune trying to hit it big” again.

“Please help me and my family as we have exausted (sic) all of our funds. We spent all of our money on lottery tickets (expecting to win the 1.5 billion) and are now in dire need of cash,” the post on the GoFundMe page read. “With your small donation of at least $1.00, a like and one share, I’m certain that we will be able to pick ourselves up from the trenches of this lost and spend another fortune trying to hit it big again! PLEASE, won’t you help a family in need. DONATE NOW.”

Amazingly she amassed $800 in donations within seven hours before GoFundMe removed the page.

“The campaign in question was removed for a violation of GoFundMe’s Terms & Conditions,” GoFundMe Media Director Kelsea Little informed New Yorks PIX 11 in a statement.

GoFundMe did not disclose what happened to the $800 that was already raised.

One Facebook user, Corey Robertson, released a video suggesting that if a “white woman” had made the same joke she wouldn’t have faced any scrutiny.

My thoughts on the Powerball Reimbursement joke.

A recent Facebook post by Nicole claimed she was facing harsh backlash from the social media community over her GoFundMe page and had various pictures reported for nudity they did not contain.

Nicole said her page is currently under review by Facebook.

Fbf I can’t even like/share anymore… My page is under review!!! I Thank all of you who actually stuck by me and stood…

Despite the strong likelihood that the entire episode is a joke, many on social media still heaped scorn on the woman.
