Clinton’s State Department kept tabs on Drudge, emails show

Hillary Clinton‘s State Department staff kept her informed on what Matt Drudge was up to, according to newly released emails from Clinton’s private server.

Two emails emerged showing that then-Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs Michael Hammer alerted Clinton’s Chief of Staff Cheryl Mills about stories “running on” or “playing on Drudge,” The Blaze reported Thursday.

A Daily Caller story revealing that United States Agency for International Development (USAID) cash was being used in the Philippines to teach English to workers for employment opportunities at call centers prompted an email from Hammer, noting the story “has not gotten mainstream press pickup.”

In the second email, Hammer wrote that a short statement was provided to ABC in response to a story about potentially anti-Semitic remarks made by U.S. Ambassador to Belgium Howard Gutman.

Since Drudge broke the Monica Lewinsky scandal that led to President Clinton’s impeachment in the 1990’s, it’s not surprising that Clinton’s State Department kept a close watch on the influential news aggregator.
