Man walks off cliff, tragically dies doing something many of us do every day

A tragic Christmas Day story is all the proof needed that electronic devices can get you killed.

A man who witnesses say was distracted by his electronic device walked off a cliff Friday in San Diego, falling 60 feet to his death, according to NBC 7 San Diego.

It’s unclear what the man was doing, but his eyes were on the device in his hands instead of on his footing.

“Witnesses stated seeing someone distracted by an electronic device and he just fell over the edge,” local lifeguard Bill Bender told NBC 7 San Diego. “(He) wasn’t watching where he was walking, he was looking down at the device in his hands.”

The incident happened at Sunset Cliffs, a popular destination that features dramatic cliff formations.

Three passersby tried to help the unidentified man, climbing down the steep embankment to administer aid.

“They acted quickly, they found a way to get down the cliff,” Bender said of the rescue attempt. “They put themselves at jeopardy…They administered CPR to the person in attempt to save a life.”

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, NBC 7 San Diego reported.
