Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump blasted CNN for questions the network’s debate hosts were asking his opponents.
“I think it’s very sad that CNN leads Jeb Bush, Gov. Bush, down a road by starting off virtually all of the questions: ‘Mr. Trump this, Mr. Trump that.’ I think it’s very sad,” Trump told CNN’s Hugh Hewitt who served as a debate panelist Tuesday.
“I watched the first debate. And the first long number of questions were, ‘Mr. Trump said this, Mr. Trump said that, Mr. Trump!’ These poor guys, although I must tell you — Santorum, good guy. Gov. Huckabee, good guy. They were very nice and I respect them very greatly. But I thought it was very unfair that virtually the entire early portion of the debate was ‘Trump this, Trump that!’” he added.
In an odd exchange, Hugh Hewitt took the blame.
“It’s not CNN,” Hewitt fired back. “I watched you last night for 16 minutes. It’s not CNN. It’s America’s watching you.”
Jeb Bush took the opportunity to take a swipe at Trump telling him how much tougher it is going to be as president than competing in a CNN debate before he added that Trump couldn’t become president by “insulting your way to the presidency.”
“Well, let’s see, I’m at 42 and you’re at three!” Trump fired back. “So so far I am doing better. So far I am doing better! You know, you started off over here Jeb, you’re moving over further and further, pretty soon you’re going to be off the end!”
