Breaking: FBI called as credible terror threat shuts down Los Angeles school system; students, faculty evacuated

All Los Angeles county schools have been closed Tuesday over what is being described as a credible terror threat.

Details of the threat have not been shared but it was enough that the school district decided to close the schools and send all students and faculty already in the buildings home, according to CNN.

The FBI has been called in and it assisting with the investigation, CNN reported.

The Los Angeles Times reported that a bomb threat was called in to a board member prompting the closure.

It is unclear when the threat was made and to which school board member, but the situation prompted the LAUSD to close all schools effective immediately, according to the Los Angeles school police.

Students and staff were directed to stay away from all campuses.

Superintendent Ramon Cortines cited the Paris attacks and the terrorist attack in San Bernardino as reasons they are taking this threat seriously.

“I think it is important that I take the precaution based on what has happened recently and what has happened in the past,” he said during a Tuesday news conference.

This story is still developing.
