NFL star surprises crowd with beautiful rendition of ‘Ave Maria’

Some people are blessed to be born with a talent. Others have an embarrassment of riches.

Such is the case for the Baltimore Ravens’ kicker Justin Tucker.

The NFL star belted out his rendition of “Ave Maria” during a charity concert Thursday to a packed house at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Mount Vernon.

“The whole event, the whole concert was truly a blessing to be a part of in such a small way for me,” Tucker told the Baltimore Sun. “All the musicians were so talented and there was a great turnout, and it was all for a great cause, which makes it that much better.”

Tucker, who started singing opera as a student at Tulane, said he found it scarier to sing in front of Thursday’s crowd than kicking field goals in front of thousands of fans.

“It’s way more nerve-wracking to sing in front of a group of people because quite frankly that’s not my element,” he said. “Kicking a ball in front of tens of thousands of people in a stadium and a bunch more watching on TV, that’s totally our comfort zone.”

If he was nervous it was hard to tell because he definitely scored.
