Fox News host Shepard Smith lost his head on Tuesday in response to Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims entering the U.S., saying that the real estate tycoon was “crazy to even speak of it.”
Ripping into Trump, he declared the candidate, and by proxy, those who support him, represent “the worst, darkest part” of America.
Smith said those who may have reservations about Islam — likely Trump supporters — need a reminder of the values that define America and not to “be dragged down the wormhole by some carnival huckster.”
“Somebody needs to come up and remind them what this nation is and what we’re about and how we dream, the way we were founded, and what our Constitution is,” he said, before turning his ire back to Trump.
“He’s not representing any of that,” Smith added. “He’s representing the worst, darkest part of all that is America.”
He also suggested Trump represents what could be the death knell of the Republican Party
“It’s the worst-kept secret on Earth that the establishment needs him to go away,” he said. “Because if he doesn’t go away, there are great fears about what will become of this party as a national party.”
It’s safe to say that Smith won’t be pulling the lever for Trump.
