Pressured Hillary blames Benghazi lies on ‘fog of war’: Wait, she was there?

Clinton-ABCHillary Clinton fought in a war?

George Stephanopoulos confronted the former secretary of state on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday over the conflicting statements she’d made immediately after the attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya, which took four American lives.

She told relatives of the victims that it was a spontaneous demonstration precipitated by an anti-Muslim YouTube video. But she told her daughter and the Egyptian prime minister that it was a planned terrorist attack.

Stephanopoulos played a short clip of family members of Benghazi victims calling Clinton a liar and asked for her comment.

She began by attributing their statements to anger and grief.

“I understand the continuing grief at the loss that parents experienced with the loss of these four brave Americans,” Clinton said. I did testify as you know for 11 hours and I answered all of these questions. Now, I can’t, I can’t help it that people think there has to be something else there.”

Then she attempted to explain the conflicting stories and sequence of events.

“I said very clearly, there had been a terrorist group that had taken responsibility on Facebook, between the time that I, you know, when I talked to my daughter. That was the latest information, we were giving it credibility, and then we learned the next day, it wasn’t true. In fact, they retracted it.”

She closed with her most outrageous statement.

“This was a fast-moving series of events in the fog of war, and I think most Americans understand.”

Fog of war? She was there? She was on that rooftop, M4 carbine in hand, fighting alongside Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty?

Of course she wasn’t, but her use of the term was an obvious attempt to beef up her creds. And it’s not the first time she did so.

During her Democratic presidential primary run in 2008, she related a “war story” that implied her life was in peril at a time when she served as first lady.

“I remember landing under sniper fire,” she said, referring to a 1996 trip to Bosnia,. “There was supposed to be some sort of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.”

Then-CBS News investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson called her out on that one, and she had the footage of her Bosnia arrival to prove it. On the video, Clinton and daughter Chelsea could be seen leisurely greeting visitors at the airport. When confronted with the evidence, Clinton claimed she “misspoke.”

One doesn’t misspeak about something like that. The way she’d embellished the details was a total fabrication from start to finish, and she got caught.
