Ex-CIA director says Obama didn’t hit ISIS oil wells because of damage to environment

President Barack Obama’s former acting CIA director said that the president avoids bombing oil wells held by Islamic State militants because of concerns that doing so may cause “environmental damage.”

“Prior to Paris…there seemed to have been a judgement that look we don’t want to destroy these oil tankers because that’s infrastructure that’s going to be necessary to support the people when ISIS isn’t there anymore and it’s going to create environmental damage,” Michael Morell said on PBS’s “Charlie Rose” last week.

“We didn’t go after oil wells, actually hitting oil wells that ISIS controls, because we didn’t want to do environmental damage, and we didn’t want to destroy that infrastructure,” he explained.

”So, now we’re hitting oil in trucks,” he observed. “Maybe you get to the point where you say we have to hit oil wells. So those are the kind of tough decisions you have to make.”

Several weeks ago. the Obama administration dropped bombs on 116 Islamic State-held oil tanker trucks — after giving the militants a 45-minutes advance warning.

Obama arrived in Paris Sunday to attend a week-long UN summit on — what else? — climate change.

Folks on social media were understandably dumbfounded.
