CJ Pearson says CNN headline’s false: ‘Viral teen YouTube star renounces conservatism’

cj-pearsonCNN declared teenage conservative champion CJ Pearson denounced conservatism but the 13-year-old said they jumped the gun.

“Viral teen YouTube star renounces conservatism,” blared the headline on CNN.com.

Pearson posted to his Facebook page Saturday that the assertion wasn’t true.

I’ve gotten all of your messages, tweets, and posts! No worries guys – CNN just got a bit too….excited with their headline.

I still hold conservative principles but I just stepped away from the label. I wanted to be me, not what others wanted me to be me from any party. The issues facing America aren’t liberal or democrat…they’re real issues that demand solutions. I’m in this game to be an objective voice for my generation and I will do just that!

Thanks for all of your support and not prejudging before getting my explanation.

On Friday CNN reported what Pearson told it in an email simply stating that he didn’t want to be labeled.

“I was tired of being a champion of a party that turned a blind eye to racial discrimination. Tired of being a champion of any cause that denies equal rights to every American. Tired of being a champion of a party that doesn’t care about the issues important to young people,” Pearson told CNN expressing concerns he has about the GOP.

“Over the past few days, I thought about essentially how I don’t want people to follow me because I’m that anti-Obama kid, or who called out Hillary Clinton or who took Bernie Sanders to task. I don’t want to be the conservative wonder kid that people follow because I make them feel good and like young people are part of their movement. I want to be followed because I’m the voice of a generation that doesn’t have a voice at the table,” he added giving no indication he had suddenly become a liberal as the headline suggested.

Pearson told CNN that the shooting of Laquan McDonald made him think about racial discrimination in America and he wanted to bring that issue to the table.

The fact that he wants the GOP to look at issues that are a concern to young people and minorities doesn’t mean CJ Pearson will be donning a Hillary Clinton or Obama T-Shirt any time soon. It simply means he wants to broaden the Republican tent to include more people.

CNN was simply too giddy over the prospect of Pearson changing his political stance.

On the contrary Pearson again blasted President Obama Saturday for politicizing the tragedy of the Planned Parenthood shooting in Colorado Springs Friday night.

Once again, President Obama politicizes another tragedy. Their lives are more than just vehicles for your gun control legislation. Their lives meant more than that, Mr. President.

Does that sound like a liberal?
