Last week the Obama administration came up with a kinder, gentler way of waging war. It gave Islamic State militants a 45-minute warning that they were about to be bombed, telling them to run for their lives., according to Military.com.
Before the A-10 Thunderbolt II and AC-130 Spectre gunships released their fury on 116 oil tanker trucks, fighter jets made low passes and dropped leaflets.

This admission was made Wednesday at a press briefing held at the Pentagon.
“In Al-Bukamal, we destroyed 116 tanker trucks, which we believe will reduce ISIL’s ability to transport its stolen oil products,” Army Col. Steve Warren said in a Pentagon teleconference from Baghdad. “This is our first strike against tanker trucks, and to minimize risks to civilians, we conducted a leaflet drop prior to the strike. We did a show of force, by — we had aircraft essentially buzz the trucks at low altitude.”
The leaflets said, “Get out of your trucks now and run away from them. Warning. Airstrikes are coming, oil trucks will be destroyed. Get away from your oil trucks immediately. Do not risk your life.”
“We combine these leaflet drops with very low altitude passes of some of our attack aviation, which sends a very powerful message,” Warren added.
Military.com reported:
The leaflet drop was more evidence of the pains taken by the U.S. in air tasking orders to avoid civilian casualties through precision weaponry and the use of intelligence assets in contrast to indiscriminate Russian airstrikes with “dumb bombs,” Warren said.
President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry have talked up the possibility of more coordination with Russia against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, since the Paris attacks and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s vow of “vengeance” earlier this week for the apparent bombing of a Russian airliner claimed by an ISIS affiliate that killed all 224 aboard.
Retired U.S. Navy intelligence officer J.E. Dyer, however, said that the drivers are hardly innocent civilians. She called it for what it was:
Call it the Rice-Power Maneuver, for Susan Rice and Samantha Power. As J.R. Dunn points out, however, the premise here is idiotic. It’s not like these drivers are innocent, uninvolved “civilians” like children or sick people. They’re waging ISIS’s war, just like the other non-uniformed participants who make up 100% of ISIS’s ranks. This is how far the Obama administration is going to avoid “collateral damage” — and who knows, it may be worse.
Although it’s good that we’re finally hitting the Islamic State’s money flow, the idea of giving them a 45-minute warning is ludicrous.
