‘Jihadi Wayne’: Daily News takes disgusting potshot at NRA, Twitter explodes

The New York Daily News locked its crosshairs on the National Rife Association’s Wayne LaPierre and fired a full barrage of stupid in its latest sensational front page.

Headlined “Nowhere to hide, Jihadi Wayne,” the Daily News depicted LaPierre in camouflage and carrying an AK-47, wearing a turban-style rag on his head. Sunday night, the paper tweeted a peek at Monday’s front page.

The newspaper took issue with NRA Executive Vice President LaPierre’s silence about Congress’ latest push for gun control measures in the wake of the Paris terrorist massacre. Both Democratic New York Senator Chuck Schumer and NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton have called for Congress to pass a so-called “no-fly, no buy” bill, which would prevent anyone on a federal terrorist watchlist from buying firearms.

Given that the government doesn’t have to file charges or follow due process to add a person to the terrorist watchlist, it’s no surprise that the powerful gun rights organization opposes it.

“The NRA does not want terrorists or dangerous people to have firearms,” NRA spokeswoman Jennifer Baker said. “Any suggestion otherwise is offensive and wrong.”

“The NRA’s only objective is to ensure that Americans who are wrongly on the list are afforded their constitutional right to due process. It is appalling that anti-gun politicians are exploiting the Paris terrorist attacks to push their gun-control agenda,” Baker explained.

Gun lovers, along with citizens who cherish their rights, returned fire at the Daily News for its shameless potshot at LaPierre.

One tweet challenged the paper to list all NRA members who have committed acts of terror.

Others shared their disgust at the tabloid-style headline.

This tweet pretty well sums up social media reaction.
