Woman bystander pulls out gun, shoots, stops fleeing purse snatcher in Walmart parking lot

A Texas man who snatched an elderly woman’s purse is lucky to be alive after a bystander shot at him as he tried to flee.

And his good fortune, such as it was, was captured on video.

According to witnesses, the man was chased by several men after he stole the woman’s purse as she and another woman unloaded groceries into their vehicle, KWTX-TV reported. After catching up to him, they tried to pin him to the ground, but the determined crook had plenty of fight in him and managed to break away.

Meanwhile, a woman armed with a handgun had came upon the scene in the parking lot of the Wal-mart Supercenter in Bellmead and when the thief started running, she leveled her weapon at him and fired a single round.

The purse snatcher, identified by police as Andre Dawson, 27, stumbled and fell when the shot rang out, but somehow managed to escape being hit.

Dawson’s pursuers managed to catch up to him and hold him until police arrived.

As for the potential “good Samaritan,” she got out of Dodge. Witnesses said that after firing the shot, she got into her truck and drove away.

Bellmead police are interested in speaking with the woman and are urging her to come forward.
