Students demand journalists agree to one ‘profoundly disturbing’ condition before covering protests

Students apparently have no idea what journalism is at one Massachusetts college.

The students, and even faculty, at Smith College held a sit-in at noon on Thursday to show support for the rabble-rousers at the University of Missouri, and they invited the press to cover the event — if they agreed to one thing.

Any journalists who wanted to cover the event had to pledge their allegiance to the students’ cause.

The rule was created because of “the way that media has historically painted radical black movements as violent and aggressive,” student Alyssa Mata-Flores told Mass Live.

“We are asking that any journalists or press that cover our story participate and articulate their solidarity with black students and students of color,” she said. “By taking a neutral stance, journalists and media are being complacent in our fight.”

Moreover, any journalist who covered the event was required to express solidarity with the students in articles.

What’s worse is the college backed the free-speech hating students.

“It’s a student event, and we respect their right to do that, although it poses problems for the traditional media,” Smith College director of media relations, Stacey Schmeidel, told Mass Live.

Journalists, and free speech supporters, expressed their disgust on social media.
