One good way to sniff out a liberal is to ask how extraterrestrials would see us Earthlings. Stay with me here, because this becomes important later when dealing with groups like ISIS.
Invariably, liberals paint us like Q saw Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Barbaric, inferior, but with a spirit of fairness and support of the underdog which, given time, would allow us to evolve into a truly remarkable addition to the universe.
Twist the plot all you want. If it’s “Independence Day,” the remarkable spirit would force-evolve Earth into kumbaya love. Change to “Ender’s Game” and you get barbarians wiping out the weaker aliens, only to evolve into Ender’s liberal sensibilities, a “kinder, gentler” genocide. Left alone, Hollywood would never come up with the aliens in “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.” We’re far too self-important for that.
The reason for all this is that all the people liberals know in Hollywood are—well, liberals. It’s only the shade of blue that differs, and the amount of cash donated to Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Conservatives are not even considered human—the archetype villains in every plot—scheming, devilish, mustache-twirling conspirators out for greed and conquest. This blindness to human nature is naïve at best, although it produces some great movies.
It’s the same with liberals in Washington, D.C., and the ivory towers of most universities, corporate headquarters, and the basement of Foggy Bottom where policy judgments are made. Everyone they know is liberal and thinks that we can just evolve our way out of problems like Russia, Syria, Iran, and ISIS. They believe in honor among thieves, a pirate code, and the beneficence of Pasha Yusuf Qaramanli. What’s naïve in Hollywood is dangerous in D.C.
In 1795, our government negotiated with the Barbary states and concluded treaties in Algiers, Tunis and Tripoli. But the Pasha in Tripoli felt slighted that Algiers and Tunis got better terms, so he simply discarded his treaty, telling us “if you don’t give me a present I will forge a pretext to capture your defenseless merchantmen.” Then he proceeded to capture the American brig, Catharine, and hold it for even more ransom.
The liberal mind just can’t comprehend that Islam hasn’t evolved over the last 220 years—look at the French, who have overcome years of stifling Roman Catholicism to achieve the triumph of reason. There have been no French popes in over 600 years, and less than 5 percent of French citizens attend Mass. There’s a larger number of Gypsies (200,000 or more) who ascribe to Pentecostal Christianity than French believers in Christ. But to the liberal mind, evolving from religion to reason is inevitable, and therefore “Westernization” is the solution to everything.
It’s the reason President Obama supported the so-called “Arab spring,” which took dictators out of power, supplanting them with demagogues who foster unquestioned loyalty to Allah. The dictators understood the mindset of their population, and, brutal as they were, kept the true evil of a worldwide caliphate at bay. Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu also understands this. “The core of the conflicts in the Middle East is the battle between modernity and early primitive medievalism,” he said last week.
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was overheard in 2011 telling Obama about Netanyahu, “I can’t stand him. He’s a liar,” to which Obama retorted, “You’re tired of him; what about me? I have to deal with him every day.” François Hollande, the current French president, who’s dealing with the second major terror attack on his own soil, is no better, having disinvited Netanyahu from walking the streets shoulder-to-shoulder with the likes of Mahmoud Abbas (the terrorist) in solidarity “against terror.” When Bibi showed up anyway, Hollande left in a fit of pique when it was Netanyahu’s turn to take the podium.
Under the enlightened, self-elevating “evolved human” liberals, all of France has been irretrievably handed over to Muslims—along with most of Europe. This is a fact, and it can no longer be reversed or undone—although the liberals would never admit they’d want to undo it anyway. They just want to “civilize” (i.e. “evolve”) the Muslims who are there. It would never occur to them that the Muslims there wouldn’t agree with their definition of civilization.
Most of the Muslims in Europe actually are civil, decent human beings, who have no problem with those uncivil among them overthrowing the current order of things to institute a Sharia-based government. After all, they believe in it already. They have a harder time with the liberals, who wish to change who they are.
There were 4.7 million Muslims in France as of January 2015, according to a Pew Research report; that’s 7.5 percent of the total population. The Muslim population is growing at a pace far exceeding the native French—changing the demographics at a rate of one percent a year. Before Obama overthrew Libya, and Moammar Gadhafi’s unceremonious death in 2011, the dictator was quoted saying “We have 50 million Muslims in Europe. There are signs that Allah will grant Islam victory in Europe—without swords, without guns, without conquest—will turn it into a Muslim continent within a few decades.”
Gadhafi’s words are proving prescient indeed, mainly because liberals around the world fail to believe or heed them.
Liberals simply can’t fathom a society based on loyalty, authority, and moral clarity, without the spark of social justice (fairness) and support of the underdog rising up to save it. In President Obama’s mind (especially), there’s nothing wrong with releasing five Yemenis from Guantanamo Bay, or importing more Syrian refugees despite state governors’ concerns. To him, the Muslims are disadvantaged underdogs, and if we just treat them nicely, they’ll evolve into something more civil.
The pussy-footing “safe space” social justice warriors believe we just need to filter out the bad actors and find the honorable ones, because to liberals, everyone, deep down, is just like themselves. It wouldn’t occur to Obama and his ilk that it’s impossible to find the bad actors. It wouldn’t occur to them that what happened in France, and will inevitably spread to the rest of Europe, will happen in America too.
The United States can’t be overthrown by a foreign enemy. Our military and industrial strength is just too great for that. But we can be undermined by a fatal blindness to evil and a naïve belief in mankind’s self-redemption. That and the fact that ISIS has already threatened to repeat what happened in Paris, but in Washington, D.C.
If this were a Hollywood movie, the hero would find the villain who so enslaved these poor uncivilized Muslims who are acting out from their pain, and defeat him. Unfortunately, Muhammed died 1,383 years ago, and his followers are perfectly happy living in the sixth century like he did.
No, I’m afraid the problem isn’t the Muslims—they can be understood by people willing to see clearly. The problem is, paraphrasing secular liberal Jonathan Haidt in his book “The Righteous Mind,” that liberals have accepted “a particular narrative,” and “become blind to alternative moral worlds.” Haidt thinks we are all self-righteous hypocrites. That may be so, but it doesn’t help when the hypocrites on the left are about to lead us all into slaughter.
