CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, normally a banner-carrier for the left, was sharply critical of President Barack Obama’s address to the G-20 summit in Turkey, Monday.
Is she beginning to wake up? Is CNN?
“If anybody was expecting to hear in the passion and eloquence and speech patterns of President Obama a tipping point, they did not hear that today,” and he was “defensive” when he was asked questions on American leadership, the network’s international correspondent said.
Obama was also dismissive, Amanpour added, of the “very palpable fear among citizens” in France, the United Kingdom and the United States “that everybody is bracing for the worst of the worst to happen again.”
Obama was defensive of his “lead from behind” strategy against Islamic State terrorists, she said.
“He said something that is pretty incredible, according to many of the military experts here and around the world who I have spoken to — that our strategy is working. People do not believe that to be the case,” Amanpour said.
“The only strategy that’s working is the strategy that he tends to dismiss — and that’s the ground troop strategy.”
She then listed the only cities that have been taken back from Islamic State militants, utilizing local ground forces to do so.
“He’s saying that ISIS is contained. This is also not actually true,” she said. “ISIS is not contained because ISIS attacked a Russian plane, attacked Beirut, and has attacked Paris.”
Watch her report.
Some folks were amazed that Amanpour (and CNN for that matter) was no longer covering for the president. Others said she had no other choice — Obama’s poor performance was all too obvious.
