O’Reilly foolishly tries to talk Trump out of deportation; see how that worked out for him

Fox News host Bill O’Reilly hammered Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on his plan to deport illegal immigrants, and called former President Dwight Eisenhower’s deportation of one million immigrants “brutal.”

During Tuesday’s GOP debate, Trump cited “Operation Wetback,” a program launched in response to immigrants taking advantage of a World War II guest worker program. Now that the war was over, there was no longer a need for the workers.

Although Trump used the term during Tuesday’s debate, he was reluctant to say it on “The O’Reilly Factor.”

But Trump remained firm.

“Believe me when I tell you, Mr. Trump, that was brutal what they did to those people to kick them back,” O’Reilly said. “The stuff they did was really brutal. It could never happen today.”

Trump said that the number deported by Eisenhower was closer to 2.2 million, and that his predecessor, Harry Truman, deported an additional 3.5 million.

As fir the “brutality” of the deportation, Trump said, “I’ve heard it both ways, I’ve heard good reports, I’ve heard bad reports. We would do it in a very humane way.”
