The mother of a nine-year-old boy executed by his father’s rival gang members in Chicago has purchased a new car while soliciting funds to bury her child.
According to police Tyshawn Lee was lured into an alley and murdered Monday night because of his father Pierre Stokes’ gang ties, a charge Stokes denies.
After the murder the child’s mother, Karla Lee, started a GoFundMe page to raise money to bury her son but just days after she raised in excess of $17,000 she purchased a new 2015 Chrysler 200 automobile.
The purchase was discovered when the dealership posted a picture on its Facebook page announcing the sale.
A torrent of vitriolic comments followed but Lee has defended herself in the face of the criticism.
“Y’all don’t know nothing about me,” she said in a video on Instagram. “For y’all to be bashing me like that, and I just lost my child.”
“I told them I was scared and I was fearing,” she told ABC 7 Chicago. “Too bad if y’all don’t understand that.”
Lee claimed to have used her own funds to purchase the car and also said $13,000 remains in the account, which she has since closed, after paying for her son’s funeral expenses.
She said she got the car because she was in fear for her life.
“If a m****rf****r telling you they gonna try to take yo life too because whatever the f**k was going on, they already took my son, I walk to work…I’m not trying to be a target for nobody,” she yelled.
“I got this s*** for my protection and ya’ll bashing me for getting a car for my protection” she said. “I’m pretty sure that’s something my son would have wanted me to do.”
