President Barack Obama, an expert at throwing red meat to his supporters, couldn’t resist a jab at GOP presidential candidates during a fundraising appearance in New York City.
The president joked that “every single one” of the Republican candidates says “Obama’s weak. Putin’s kicking sand in his face.”
“They can’t handle a bunch of CNBC moderators,” Obama said, to the crowd’s roars.
“If you can’t handle those guys, then I don’t think the Chinese and the Russians are gonna be too worried about you,” he concluded.
“I don’t think the Chinese and the Russians are gonna be too worried,” says @POTUS of the GOP cands, if they can’t handle @CNBC moderators.

At least the president’s joke contained one nugget of truth. Putin seems to have his way with Obama in every encounter on the world stage. As for the GOP candidates, when Sen. Ted Cruz lit into the CNBC moderators, nobody could argue who handled whom. Conservatives on social media weren’t fooled by Obama’s ribbing.
@NBCNews @POTUS @CNBC People are pretty tired of gotta questions. I think the Republicans “handled” the media fine. #opinion

It’s really objectively weird that Obama would try to troll anyone about how weak they might be towards Putin

@markknoller @POTUS @CNBC Now, that’s laughable. How’s Barack been getting along with them?
