It would have been too good to be true: New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, a longtime Red Sox fan, “fell in love” with the Mets.
And, as it turns out, it’s not true at all.
Mayor de Blasio’s tweets during the Mets’ World Series loss to the Kansas City Royals, Sunday, were written by a staffer, the Daily News reported Tuesday.
Something happens when you’re a Sox fan living here for a few decades. You slowly fall in love with the Mets.

The shame!
November the First. The New York @Mets in the #WorldSeries. Beautiful. — Bill de Blasio (@BilldeBlasio) November 2, 2015
What feels familiar is the breeze blowing off the mayor’s hot air.
There’s a kindred. And this year, it was just so easy. This team! All the franchise has been through. It feels so familiar.

Perhaps de Blasio should take this KC fan’s advice.

New Yorkers take their sports teams rather seriously—this thing could take a while to blow over.

The Mets lost in a heartbreaker, but there’s always a bright side—or is there?
Look on the bright side Mets fans, you’ve still got Bill de Blasio as your mayor. #WorldSeries pic.twitter.com/SveCN5wIMm — Sam Valley (@SamValley) November 2, 2015
