HUMANITY! Lonely 95-year-old says he’s missing his wife; sweet radio host invites him by for coffee

A 95-year-old BBC listener who was missing his wife called the local radio station to say he was lonely and set off a chain of events he was never expecting.

The elderly man, identified as Bill, spoke to BBC Radio Solent host Alex Dyke, who was so captivated by Bill’s plight that he invited him in for a cup of coffee.

Turns out, Bill got married last year and his wife is in the hospital after taking a fall.

“We knew each other for 30 odd years and she needed a carer and I took over the role of carer,” Bill told Dyke on air. “Then it became so involved we decided we’d get married.”

“She fell over and hurt herself and went into hospital and she had to go into a nursing home, and I go down and I visit her every day,” he added. “You’ve got no idea how sorry I am.”

The show posted a video of the exchange on its Facebook page:

“Bill phoned BBC Radio Solent,” the show noted. “He was upset, lonely and missing his wife. Alex decided to invite him in. We sent a cab to pick him up.”

And when he arrived at the station, Dyke welcomed Bill like family — with a big hug.
