Bob Beckel’s back for good! Liberal curmudgeon signs a new TV deal

After months of speculation about his future, conservatives’ favorite love-to-hate liberal is back on television.

Bob Beckel, who parted from Fox News in June after leaving the station’s afternoon ratings juggernaut “The Five” in a state of limbo as he underwent back surgery and then battled addiction, has signed with CNN, according to The Daily Beast.

Beckel, who worked in the Jimmy Carter administration and, more recently, provided political analysis from a liberal perspective on Fox News, will appear as a political expert across all CNN programs.

The Five Bob Beckel

Fox News fans, who tend to have less tolerance for other liberals, were particularly fond of Beckel because of his over-the-top personality, the Beast reported.

As the lone left-leaning voice at the table, Beckel was a fan favorite because of his tendency for unpredictable opinions, curmudgeonly attitude (he once snarled that Julian Assange must be killed), and occasional lack of filter (he has shouted “fuck” and “bullshit” on-air multiple times).

Beckel also won over audiences by being especially forthright about his dark past—one that includes a troubled childhood, heavy drug use (mostly cocaine, he’ll admit), alcohol abuse, and an unfortunate run-in with a prostitute hell-bent on extortion.
