Actress enlightens ‘The View’ host on religious liberty; earns applause for defending public prayer

bure-symone“The View” co-host Raven-Symone’s claws were out and her hackles rose when actress Candice Cameron Bure expressed her belief in the right of public prayer on Monday’s edition of the show.

The women were discussing the Bremerton, Washington, assistant football coach who, on Friday night, defied a school administration order to cease his traditional post-game 50-yard line prayers.

“The separation of church and state does not mean that we cannot pray publicly,” Bure explained. “It actually guarantees our free exercise of religion so that if it is voluntary, we are allowed to pray wherever we would like to.”

“So why did they take prayer out of the beginning of school and now it’s just silence?” Raven-Symone snapped.

“I don’t know, I wish they wouldn’t have,” Bure said.

“But that’s not fair to somebody who doesn’t pray,” Raven-Symone shot back.

“You don’t have to — it’s voluntary,” Bure said. “If people would actually put more effort into prayer than to fight prayer, you would see a whole difference in this country to see that power of prayer.”

That comment earned thunderous applause from the audience.

Bure expressed praise for Joe Kennedy, the coach who took a stand and defied the school officials, adding that schools should hire “more men like this who are willing to pray for our students, for our athletes, for protection, for safety.”

Believe it or not, the other co-hosts on “The View,” a show noted for its apparent leftist views, appeared to side with the coach, given that the prayer wasn’t mandatory. But Raven-Symone’s body language seemed to tell a whole different story.
