Heartbreaking: Rookie police officer shot outside his home, leaves behind pregnant fiancée

A rookie Memphis police officer was shot dead on his way to work, leaving behind a fiancée who is four months pregnant.

Terence Olridge, 32, was shot outside his home Sunday afternoon. He was transported to the hospital and listed in critical condition, but died shortly after his arrival.

Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong said a suspect was taken into custody but no charges have been filed.

Olridge is the second Memphis officer to be fatally shot in the last 4 months, according to the Washington Times.

“It just doesn’t get any easier,” Armstrong said Sunday. “I didn’t think that we’d be here again so soon.”

Olridge started as a Memphis police office in Sept 14 and was interviewed by Fox 13 at his graduation.

“Got a task ahead of me and I am prepared,” he told Fox 13.

Armstrong said “details are sketchy” at the moment, but many took to social media to share news and offer condolences.
