Presidential candidate Donald Trump predicted Monday that the first Democratic presidential debate is going to be pretty boring, because as a Republican, he won’t be taking part in it.
“I think people are going to turn it on for a couple of minutes and then fall asleep,” Trump told the hosts of “Fox and Friends” at about the 8:40 mark in a telephone interview.
“I don’t want to say this in a braggadocios way, but a person at CNN and a couple of other people said, ‘We have to put Donald Trump in this debate. We’re going to die with it.’ Let’s see,” the billionaire real estate developer said.
“I don’t think they’ll do badly, because there is a curiosity factor. I don’t think they’re going to do great, and I think a lot of people are going to turn off after a little while,” he added.
Asked if he thought Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton might be nervous during CNN’s Tuesday night debate, Trump noted her email controversy and said, “I think she’s nervous about her whole future.”
The Republican presidential front-runner also took on President Barack Obama characterizing Trump as a “publicity seeker” and a “classic reality TV character” in a CBS News “60 Minutes” interview.
“I watched his performance last night and I thought it was terrible,” Trump told the Fox & Friends co-hosts.
“I thought it was sad because everything is negative, you know, nothing positive,” Trump said. “I thought it was a little bit sad because there was so much negativity.”
Obama also predicted in the “60 Minutes” interview that Trump wouldn’t be the next president.
“He can’t say that ‘I think he’s going to make it’ in all fairness to him,” Trump said.
He mentioned the president’s own lack of success and mounting problems ignored by the Obama administration.
“We have a trade deal that’s a disaster,” Trump said. “We have somebody more worried about climate change than all of the problems we have.”
He referred to the Iran nuclear deal as “one of the worst deals I’ve ever seen in the history of deal-making.”
Trump also addressed the recommendation that former Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl receive no jail time.
