Gun in the home saves elderly women from BRUTAL home invasion

A home intruder with a history of attacking elderly women made a big mistake when he choose two Georgia sisters.

Thanks to the gun they kept in the home, that is.

The sisters, 75 and 64, called 911 to report a break-in to their Folkston home Tuesday, but when police arrived they found 40-year-old Jonathan Green on the ground dead, in front of the house, according to WJXT-TV.

The station did not identify the women involved, but according to the 64-year-old, Green attacked her from behind but she was able to get away and come back armed with a small pistol. She used the weapon to shoot Green three times before he staggered outside.

Green’s cousin, who said she was surprised by what happened, admitted to WJXT that he had been in trouble with the law before.

“He’s a very funny person, very well known, always joking,” Green’s cousin said. “I mean, it’s shocking … to hear say what happened. It’s hard to believe.”

But Green’s sister told WJXT-TV she plans on traveling to the area because the story didn’t make sense to her.

Perhaps it would make more sense if she looked at her brother’s record and found, as WJXT did, that Green pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and burglary when he attacked an older woman in a similar home invasion in 2009. That got him 20 years probation.

The victim in that attack described it for WJXT.

“The doorbell rang, I answered it. I pulled this way and fell backwards,” Mary Jane Allen said. “I was screaming, but they didn’t hear me because you can’t hear nothing through these walls. I screamed myself hoarse.”

She believes divine intervention in the form of a cross and pictures of Jesus on her wall saved her.

“When he seen that, he stopped and took off,” she said.

Now she hopes he’s in a better place.

“I hope God forgave him. I know Jesus would forgive him,” Allen told WJXT. “That’s the first thing they asked me, if I forgave him, and I said, ‘Yes.’ I said, ‘Why shouldn’t I?’ If Jesus forgives, why can’t we?'”

As for the women in Tuesday’s attack, they were both treated and released from a local hospital with minor injuries.

The woman who shot Green expressed her condolences to his family.
