Details about Oregon shooter emerge as neighbors remember ‘anxious’ and ‘protected’ young man

Information about the shooter, who murdered up to 10 innocent souls and injured at least 7 others during a mass shooting at Umpqua Community College on Thursday, is coming in.

As a nation tries to make sense of the senseless, evil act, details about the killer, 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer, are coming to light.

Many reports state he was coddled by his mother and was an angry recluse.

The New York Times reported:

Neighbors in Winchester, Ore., and Torrance, Calif., where Mr. Mercer, 26, lived with his mother, Laurel Harper, remember a reclusive and seemingly fragile young man with a shaved head and dark glasses who seemed to recoil from social interaction.

“He always seemed anxious,” said Rosario Lucumi, 51, who rode the same bus in Torrance as Mr. Mercer when she went to work.

The Times also reported the killer was withdrawn, often wore the same outfit every day, and was “fiercely protected” by his mother.

One law enforcement official described Mercer to “The Times” as appearing to be “an angry young man who was very filled with hate.”

When the madman showed up to Umpqua with murder on his mind, he was reportedly armed with three pistols and one rifle, according to The Daily Mail.

Numerous reports claim the killer was enthralled with the Irish Republican Army and Nazis. Self-described as a “non-religious” person, the gunman reportedly asked students at one point if they were Christians, before shooting them in the head. If they were not Christian, they were shot in the leg.

The Daily Mail reported:

Harper-Mercer wrote in a post this August about how much he admired Vester Flanagan, the Roanoke shooter who killed a cameraman and newscaster at the television station where he had been employed after getting fired.

On that same profile it also showed that just three days ago Harper-Mercer uploaded This World Surviving Sandy Hook BBC Documentary 2015 for people to watch on the file sharing site.

“On an interesting note, I have noticed that so many people like him are all alone and unknown, yet when they spill a little blood, the whole world knows who they are. A man who was known by no one, is now known by everyone,” wrote the Oregon shooter.

Details about the shooting and the shooter continue to develop.
