Count Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert among those who is thrilled at the retirement of outgoing House Speaker John Boehner.
Appearing on “Fox & Friends” Saturday Gohmert told the panel, “First of all, I awoke this morning, I said my prayers, and I said, ‘Thank you, Lord.’”
Gohmert — a longtime conservative foe of the outgoing Boehner — said that no matter who the next speaker is, he’s confident they will be more conservative than Boehner, who he said ran the House like a “dictatorship”
“I know they’ll be more conservative because they will let the majority rule and that’s the way it’s supposed to work,” Gohmert said. “We have had a dictatorship for years now, and we saw that with the funding of the Homeland Security, which funded amnesty. You had 167 Republicans vote against it, 75 vote for it, which tells you way over two-thirds have not been listened to by this speaker.”
He said the fact that Harry Reid spoke out on Twitter in support of Boehner just proves conservatives’ point that he has been a rubber stamp for Democrats and Obama.
“It tells you a lot about what’s been happening,” Gohmert said. “Harry Reid and the president want somebody that they can push around, get him to do whatever they wanted and not stop them because Harry Reid’s idea of compromise is ‘do what I say or you are not bipartisan.’”
