A senior Vatican official is offended by President Obama’s choice of guests to meet with Pope Francis during his trip to the U.S., according to The Wall Street Journal, and he’s not alone.
An openly gay Episcopal bishop, a Democratic activist nun, and a cross-dressing transgender activist, are among the invitees to the White House reception greeting the pope on Wednesday.
Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee called Obama “classless” for putting together the controversial invite list.
The Vatican is concerned that controversial guests will take pictures alongside Pope Francis and use those pictures to assume an endorsement of the gay lifestyle. The White House failed to correct – or comment – on the possibility, according to the Journal.
Sister Simone Campbell, who spoke at the 2012 Democrat National Convention, leads a group called “Network,” an organization cited by the Vatican as failing to adequately promote pro-life positions.
As head of “Nuns on the Bus,” Campbell was instrumental on pushing Obamacare on members of Congress. She is one of the invitees expected to be in attendance at Wednesday’s event with the pope.
