Dem gov. calls Carson a ‘science denier’: ‘Pediatric neurosurgeons are known for totally hating science’

California’s Democrat Gov. Jerry Brown earned some social media heat after making a statement seen as “startlingly stupid.”

Brown tweeted a picture of a letter about climate change he sent to 2016 Republican presidential contender Dr. Ben Carson, one of the world’s top neurosurgeons, along with a caption calling him a “science denier.”

A statement so dumb one Twitter user responded by saying “Pediatric neurosurgeons are known for totally hating science.”

The letter was accompanied by a United Nations report on climate change that Brown asked Carson to review because “climate change is much bigger than partisan politics.” When reached for comment by CNN on Saturday, Carson’s campaign communications director Doug Watts said they had not received the letter, however Carson was not a “climate denier” but a “climate questioner.” “He has a different standard of persuasion and proof. Nothing more. He questions (climate change) and cares about the environment,” Watts said. Twitter users found it hilarious that a career politician would question the scientific knowledge of a neurosurgeon.
