Not that there was much suspense over whether Steven Colbert would bring his liberal views with him to the “Late Show” set, but David Letterman’s successor let it be known this week just how prominent those views will be when he professed his support for the Black Lives Matter hate group.
A member of the increasingly violent movement attended Friday’s show and was called on while Colbert was taking questions from the audience before the show — purely coincidental, of course.
The activist, Patrick Waldo, who said he brought along a “Black Lives Matter” bracelet “on the off chance” he might be selected, asked Colbert to wear the wristband as a show of support for the movement.
Waldo posted on Instagram:
I told him I’ve been involved in the Black Lives Matter movement for the last year. I said “From one member of the ruling class to another,” and he laughed and interrupted me and said “The ruling class? What do you rule? Because I rule this theater!” I said “You do! So I’m gonna put you on the spot right now and ask you to wear this Black Lives Matter wristband on the show, AND say Black Lives Matter at least once during the show because I think your audience needs to hear it!”
Colbert was only too happy to oblige, despite Black Lives Matter activists recently calling for the deaths of cops less than 24 hours after the assassination of Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Darren Goforth.
“Bring it to me,” Colbert said, according to Waldo. “But I make promises to no one!”

Waldo said the “Late Show” host later told him that if he couldn’t work a mention in on Friday’s show, that “he’d find a way to do it within the next couple of shows.”
But Colbert kept the bracelet on and proudly wore it throughout the show — Waldo posted a montage of images of Colbert doing just that on Instagram. With or without Letterman, the beat goes on.
The reaction on social media suggested Colbert may want to focus more on his ratings. Colbert had his supporters, of course — but he might have infuriated more people than he expected.
