Fireworks exploded when the leader of the Minnesota Black Lives Matter march that called for “frying” police clashed with a former Drug Enforcement Agency agent.
Rashad Turner told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin Monday that his group was not promoting violence against police officers but that the chant of “pigs in a blanket, fry ‘em like bacon,” merely means they want police held to the same standard as civilians.
Ridiculous, right? Former DEA special agent David Katz thought so too.
“When my fellow Americans are murdered in a church in South Carolina I weep,” Katz said. “When you start weeping for white cops who get shot down in Houston then I’ll be talking the same message you talk.”
Though Katz and Baldwin tried to suggest that others not even affiliated with the Black Lives Matter group could use chants calling for dead cops in Brooklyn and the chants in the Minnesota march as a reason to kill cops, Turner refused to get off his talking points, insisting they aren’t calling for violence but focusing on bad cops.
“I’m not sure what a good cop is,” Turner insisted. “We’re getting hung up by this rhetoric that’s making white people uncomfortable or causing that discomfort. Every day as a black man I’m uncomfortable simply because of the color of my skin.”
