Would Megyn Kelly really leave Fox? Source says she’s prepping to go mainstream

kellyA source who claims to have the inside scoop on what happens behind the scenes at Fox News signaled that the mega cable network’s fastest rising star might be leaving.

Author Gabriel Sherman said during a Newsmax interview on Thursday, that Megyn Kelly could consider ditching her hit show “The Kelly File” to seek a spot with a more “mainstream” news outlet.

But Sherman has a history of dissing Fox News.

An industry insider told BPR that his latest claim is “ludicrous speculation about Megyn that just reeked of desperation – he’s making a fool of himself at this point.”

In the televised interview, Sherman, who penned “The Loudest Voice in the Room” – an unauthorized biography trashing Roger Ailes, Fox News’ chairman and CEO, said this about Kelly:

“Up until this point, she was the fastest rising star at Fox News. She was really becoming the face of the network,”

Kelly’s ratings have only soared throughout the ongoing and very public feud between her and Presidential contender Donald Trump, but continuing the battle is something Sherman said, Kelly isn’t interested in.

“I don’t think she wants to get down in the weeds and in the gutter and playing this kind of hardball politics.”

“Part of this is she also wants to go mainstream,” Sherman continued.

According to Sherman, the Fox News Network has been thrown for a major loop because of Trump’s antics.

But Sherman has a reputation for using anonymous, unverifiable sources. Last week he was called out by Howard Stern after publishing a controversial piece in New York Magazine.

BizPac Review reported:

Radio shock jock Howard Stern threw cold water last week on a liberal magazine’s attempt to restoke the brief but high-profile feud between Fox News and Republican front-runner Donald Trump.

Quoting an unidentified source, a New York Magazine article suggested Stern called Trump during his tangle with Fox and star host Megyn Kelly to tell Trump about a 2010 interview he conducted with Kelly “in which Kelly joked about her breasts and her husband’s penis.”

That interview happened, as everyone who followed the Trump-Kelly saga knows. The telephone call didn’t, Stern said last week on his Sirius XM show.

“I’d like to know your source on that, because I challenge it,’ Stern said. “Not because I care so much, but I want Megyn Kelly to know that I don’t pick up the phone and call and say, ‘man, I got something for you.’ I don’t do that.”

Sherman took a shot at Ailes during the Newsmax interview, as well.

“Donald Trump is not predictable and Roger Ailes is used to Republicans coming to kiss his ring,” Sherman said.

“They all bow down to Fox News, but Donald Trump does not play by those rules and Ailes essentially doesn’t know how to act and so he’s been switching strategies.”

One of those strategies, according to Sherman, could have been a “coordinated response” from Kelly’s coworkers aimed at Trump. Numerous Fox personalities took to social media earlier this week to publicly chide the presidential hopeful for incendiary comments he made about Kelly.

Then again, it may have been as simple as friends sticking up for a fellow co-worker.

Either way, Sherman is wildly speculating it all might lead to a big change for the news giant.

“You know there was some talk before [Kelly’s] most recent contract that she was flirting with CNN to kind of jump from Fox to CNN,” Sherman said.

“I think she wants to leave all options on the table and if she gets down in the weeds and really slugs it out with Trump that would hurt her brand.”

Leaving options on the table is common sense. Leaving Fox News is probably common gossip.
