A conservative watchdog group known for undercover video exposes put the Hillary Clinton campaign into its sights — and released a video depicting campaign workers for the Democratic front-runner skirting Iowa election laws.
Investigative video journalist James O’Keefe and his Project Veritas, who first came to public attention by releasing video that eventually brought down the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, released its latest video Wednesday.
During a voter registration drive, a Hillary for America campaign official is shown telling volunteers to ask if they support their candidate before offering to register them to vote.
“We don’t want to make our focus voter registration,” he says.
“If you open up a conversation as like, ‘Hey, are you registered to vote?’ And they’re, like, ‘no,’ and they want to register, you have to register them,” the official says.
“And so that’s why I want to keep our primary focus on, ‘Hey, are you a Hillary supporter?’ And then if not, then great move on, you know?” she continued.
Iowa election law 39A.2 (1)(b)(5) provides, according to the video:
A person commits the crime of election misconduct in the first degree if the person willfully … deprives, defrauds, or attempts to deprive of defraud the citizens of this state of a fair and impartially conducted election process.
Notwithstanding this provision, a Republican field worker who didn’t wish to be identified told Time magazine that asking people who they supported prior to offering to help them register was common practice in Iowa.
However, O’Keefe promises much more to come.
“This is just the tip of the iceberg,” O’Keefe says at the end of the video.
“In fact, stay tuned, Hillary, because we’re shortly going to release a stunning story of election malfeasance at the highest levels of your campaign,” O’Keefe continues. “Check your email.”
Clinton’s campaign is already besieged by scandals involving her use of a private email account run on a private server to conduct official business while serving as secretary of state.
In addition, she’s been served with a subpoena to appear before the House Select Committee on Benghazi in October, chaired by GOP pit bull Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina.
This is just one more monkey wrench thrown into her political machine.
