Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump called in to ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday and found himself going round and round with host George Stephanopoulos over the details of Trump’s plans to address illegal immigration.
And no matter how many times Trump gave a reasonable answer, the ABC host continued to be stumped.
Stephanopoulos pointed to the expected cost of deporting 11 million-plus illegal immigrants, asking the candidate where he would get the money to pull the feat off.
Trump disputed the estimated cost given and repeated his claims on the crime associated with illegal immigrants.
“They’d be out really fast,” he said of those in the country illegally. “Immediately… first day we’d start that movement.”
Going back to the cost, Stephanopoulos pushed Trump to explain where he’d get the money.
“Well, it’s costing us $130 billion a year and that’s peanuts compared to what the real cost is George, for the way we have it now,” the candidate said. “We don’t even know how many illegals, I hear 11 million, 30 million. The government has no idea.”
“We have lost control of our country,” he added. “We’ve lost control of our borders.”
Again Stephanopoulos pressed for specifics, asking Trump “exactly how are you going to do it?”
“George, it’s called management,” Trump replied. “And the first thing we have to do is secure the border. But it’s called management.”
Not satisfied, Stephanopoulos continued to press.
“George, I’m telling you, it’s called management,” Trump explained.
Before moving on, Stephanopoulos complained that he was still not hearing specifics, prompting the real estate tycoon to spell it out for him.
“I’m going to get great people that know what they’re doing,” Trump said. “Not a bunch of political hacks that have no idea what they’re doing, appointed by President Obama, that doesn’t have a clue.”
