Chris Matthews promises to shut down ‘Hardball’ if Hillary drops out of race; Gingrich is giddy

chris-matthews-topDemocratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton must must be another leg-tingler for MSNBC host Chris Matthews.

He announced earlier this week that if the former secretary of state drops out of the race, he’ll put his show “Hardball” to bed.

While he was discussing Republican presidential candidates with GOP strategist Kellyanne Conway, she brought up the possibility that Clinton’s evolving email scandals could force her to throw in the towel.

“When Hillary Clinton quits this election, we’ll shut down the show,” Matthews announced.

Matthews has often been the brunt of jokes for having once said he felt a “thrill going up my leg” when listening to a Barack Obama speech.

Newt Gingrich, former House speaker and 2012 Republican presidential candidate, was delighted by the prospect of the show’s demise, and tweeted:
