Rosie O’Donnell thanked those who helped search for her missing 17-year-old daughter Chelsea, who she said was safely found Tuesday.

Chelsea had been missing for a week, prompting O’Donnell to turn to the Internet for help.

According to O’Donnell’s spokeswoman, Cindi Berger, the teen suffers from mental illness and had stopped taking her medication. She was found in a home in New Jersey.

 The Washington Times reported:

Police went to the residence and although the person answering the door initially did not want to reveal Chelsea’s presence, police said they would not be leaving until she came out. She then appeared and left with police without incident, Germain said.

It was not immediately clear what relationship O’Donnell had with the people who lived in the house. Rosie O’Donnell has a vacation home in the New Jersey shore area.

Chelsea—who was adopted as a baby by O’Donnell and her then-partner Kelli Carpenter—had spoken to her birth mother Deanna Micoley about a possible visit, according to Radar Online. Micoley lives in Wisconsin.

Chelsea’s biological mother blames O’Donnell for not watching out for her child, and for much more than that.

“Rosie should have been paying closer attention to my daughter,” Micoley said. “There is nothing I can do but sit here and wait and pray everything is okay.”

Last November, Micoley told the National Enquirer that “Rosie O’Donnell stole my baby, but I don’t want her money.  I just want my daughter back!”

Micoley said she was in a heroin-fueled stupor in November 1997 when she gave up her baby—then named Kayla—for adoption.

“I believe Rosie O’Donnell knew that I was in no condition to sign away my parental rights to my daughter! She did the worst thing one woman can do to another woman — take her child!”

O’Donnell, through her representative, maintained that the adoption was fully legal and that she had “encouraged and supported Chelsea’s desire to communicate with her birth mother.”

Regardless of how the drama turns out, Chelsea is now safe, and that’s a happy ending to a parent’s worst nightmare when a child goes missing.
