The FBI’s investigation of Hillary Clinton’s personal email server was triggered by two emails related to the deadly attack in Benghazi in 2012, Fox News reported Wednesday.
Appearing by phone on the “Mornings with Maria” show, Fox News Chief White House Correspondent Ed Henry reported the emails involved Huma Abedin, Hillary’s longtime aide and deputy chief of staff at the State Department, and Jake Sullivan, a Hillary foreign policy adviser.
The emails “may have triggered some alarms in the intelligence community that they were in Hillary Clinton’s private server,” Henry told “Mornings” host Maria Bartoromo.
While Henry couldn’t supply details of the emails that set off the investigation, he said the revelation was going to be a factor in the months ahead – particularly Hillary’s much anticipated Oct. 22 testimony to the Select Committee on Benghazi in October.
“Does it move the ball forward in getting to the truth about Benghazi?” he asked. “That’s one of the things that will be a big fight here during this presidential campaign.”
Regardless of the actual details of the emails, Henry said, the development underscores how important the email investigation has become – regardless of how Hillary tries to make light of it.
“This is the FBI now,” Henry said. “This is deadly serious business.”
Not as deadly as it was for the four Americans in Benghazi that day.
