Trey Gowdy dissects Hillary’s email lies: ‘I get that she’s frustrated,’ but whose fault’s that?

Trey Gowdy didn’t let his viewers down.

With the FBI and State Department inspector general now investigating Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server, her reputation for honesty is in the cellar, television networks were clamoring Sunday for reaction from the South Carolina congressman who chairs the House Select Committee on Benghazi.

gowdy-fnc“Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace asked for Gowdy’s reaction after playing a short clip of Clinton lambasting Republicans for playing “the same old partisan games” by politicizing her email scandal.

Gowdy replied that the investigation into Clinton’s activities could hardly be defined as partisan — they were initiated by the Obama administration’s FBI and inspectors general.

And Clinton’s own handling of the matter, particularly how she presented the involvement of longtime confidant Sidney Blumenthal, did her no favors, Gowdy said.

“I get that she’s frustrated,” Gowdy told Wallace. “Her poll numbers are tanking. Folks who never thought about getting into the race are getting in the race.  But she need not blame House Republicans for having her own personal server, for exclusively using private email, for telling us the Sidney Blumenthal emails were unsolicited and then we later find out that they were not, after telling us there was no classified information, then we later find out that there was.”

Gowdy remarked that when people are angry, they tend to react in one of two ways:

They’ll either “look in the mirror” and engage in self-reflection, he said, or they’ll lash out and blame outside forces, like “non-existent right-wing conspiracies.”

“Apparently, she’s chosen to do the latter,” Gowdy said.

gowdy-abcGowdy was also a Sunday guest on ABC News’ “This Week,” where he told anchor Martha Raddatz that Clinton’s sworn statement relative to her emails reminded him “why people hate lawyers as much as they do.”

Raddatz raised the issue.

“Mr. Chairman, Secretary Clinton signed a statement over the weekend, declaring under penalty of perjury that she has turned over to the government all of the emails that were federal records,” she said.

Gowdy clearly wasn’t buying it, and for good reason.

“Well, I read that statement and if you read that statement, you know why people hate lawyers as much as they do,” Gowdy said. “I don’t read the statement that way, and I can’t read the statement that way because I know that to be false.”

Then he got to specifics.

“Remember those 15 emails that Sidney Blumenthal turned over to our committee that she did not turn over to the State Department?” he asked. “We know for a fact that she did not turn over all records and all documents to the State Department, so how she can represent that to a federal judge under oath is something I suspect at some point that judge will ask her.”
